What Are Structured Products / Structured Notes?

Structured products (notes) are pre-packaged investments that offer risk-controlled exposure to an asset such as Bitcoin.

On Fig, structured products are called notes.

Structured notes are made typically by combining a traditional asset such as fixed income with financial derivatives. By combining assets in a specific way, the package gives the noteholder a synthetic exposure to an asset with downside protection.

Trading derivatives is prohibitive for most investors due to their complexity and dimensionality. Structured notes make derivatives easy for investors. They are highly customizable, risk controlled, and specifically in the case of digital assets such as Bitcoin or Ether, noteholder does not have to worry about private key custody risk.

All notes have the following properties:

  1. Principal amount is the amount in USD that an investor would purchase a note for.
  2. Maturity date is the date on which the note matures and the investor receives their principal plus variable return back.
  3. Variable return of principal defines the maximum of return of note in percentage. This is pre-defined before an investor buys a note.
